Serie A giants AC Milan are reportedly considering an approach to sign Ander Herrera from Manchester United in January after failing in their attempt to sign a marquee midfielder during the summer transfer window.
The Rossoneri had a difficult summer where they were initially banned from Europa League football for breaking the Financial Fair Play rules but they managed to overcome the embargo after winning an appeal at the Court of Arbitration of Sport.
Thereafter, their change in ownership ensured that they made some quality business before the transfer deadline but Calciomercato suggests that the San Siro outfit are still aiming to pursue another central midfielder.
As per the publication, the Rossoneri are keen on bolstering the midfield department further at the turn of the year and Herrera has been identified as a potential target owing to his contract situation.
Herrera has just 10 months remaining on his existing United contract but he has previously suggested his ambition of staying put with Manchester United beyond the summer of 2019.
However, a recent report has claimed that United are yet to open up discussions with the Spain international and this could witness him leave on a cut-price move in the New Year.
Milan made some meaningful midfield business during the summer with Tiemoue Bakayoko joining them on a season-long loan from Chelsea but so far, things have not gone as planned for the Frenchman.
Bakayoko made his debut as a substitute during the Serie A opener against Napoli last month but his performance was far from impressive with manager Gennaro Gattuso saying that he has ‘defects‘ and needs to improve on his ball retention skills.
