France international Anthony Martial has reportedly been tipped to leave Manchester United this summer following his restricted gametime during the backend of the previous campaign.
The 22-year-old had been the automatic choice on the left wing for most of the first half of the season but his chances become limited following the surprise winter signing of Alexis Sanchez.
Martial ended the 2017/18 season with a tally of 11 goals and seven assists but just one of those came between February and May, where he was either on the bench or occasionally playing on the right wing.
In an exclusive with RMC Sport, Martial’s agent has now confirmed that the Frenchman has decided on pursuing a new challenge elsewhere after the lack of faith shown by the club last season.
The representative added that the contract discussions have not progressed over the past eight months and believes United no longer regard his client as one of their key players.
Martial’s current deal at Old Trafford expires in the summer of 2019 and as things stand, he appears likely to leave the club, though Jose Mourinho could have the final say.
Back in March, Mourinho highlighted that he has no plans of making forward additions to his squad and the prospect of Martial leaving United may introduce an unwanted void.
So far, the focus from United has been to strengthen the midfield and defensive positions but they may have to reinvest on a new wideman, should the Frenchman push through an exit.
