Arsenal, Chelsea vying to sign unsettled Brazilian midfielder

Premier League giants Arsenal and Chelsea could reportedly go head-to-head to acquire the signature of Manchester United midfielder Andreas Pereira at the turn of the year.

The Brazilian had an impressive pre-season tour with the Red Devils during the summer and he was thereafter tipped to play a regular role through the ongoing campaign.

However, barring the opening two league matches, he has struggled to earn a start in any competition under Jose Mourinho and this has intensified speculation over his future.

According to The Mirror, Pereira could be on the move during the winter transfer window with his existing United deal scheduled to expire at the end of the campaign.

It is added that the Belgian-born ace is keen on staying put in the Premier League and this may witness one of Chelsea or Arsenal push forward with a bargain deal worth £10m.

Despite the speculation, United could yet keep the midfielder with them for the season, given they have an extension clause to prolong his contract by an additional 12 months.

Moreover, Mourinho has generally been reluctant to sell promising youngsters to direct league rivals and this may present another stumbling block when the transfer window reopens.

Nonetheless, Pereira appears unlikely to remain at Old Trafford anytime longer without the assurance of regular gametime and his future could be decided next summer at the latest.

Pereira, who has the solitary cap with the Brazilian national team, has managed just five appearances for United this campaign with the most recent one coming in the 2-2 league draw at Chelsea.
