Real Madrid midfielder Luka Modric is reportedly looking into a return to the Premier League at the end of the current campaign. The Croatia international has been highly successful during his time at the Bernabeu but he is seemingly prepared for a fresh challenge before calling time on his playing career.
According to Diario Gol, the 32-year-old has set his sights on probable return to English football and this has supposedly caught the eye of several elite clubs including Arsenal and Liverpool.
However, the midfielder is said to have a particular preference for London following his four-year spell with Tottenham Hotspur, and this could see him snub advances from Jurgen Klopp’s side.
Modric has won three Champions League titles and one La Liga crown during his five-and-a-half seasons with the Madrid giants, but his future has come under question with Zinedine Zidane planning a summer overhaul.
Despite the progress made in Europe, Los Blancos appear to have surrendered their league title to run-away leaders Barcelona and this is likely to encourage the plans of recruiting fresh faces into the squad.
As per Diario Gol, Modric’s preference for London could spur up a mini transfer battle between Arsenal and Tottenham Hotspur but judging by the summer requirements, the latter are more in need of strengthening.
Modric has surely past his prime before the season comes to a close but Arsenal could do with a strong and focused mentality in central midfield – something which they have lacked following Santi Cazorla’s lengthy injury absence.
Jack Wilshere has yet to renew his Gunners contract beyond the summer and the experience that Modric brings to the table could make him a valuable short-term replacement, irrespective of his trailing age.
