Arsenal have reportedly decided against reviving their interest in Anthony Martial when the transfer window reopens in a few months’ time. The Frenchman had been eager to discuss a move to the north London giants in January but United declined to involve him in their negotiations over a swap agreement for Alexis Sanchez.
Eventually, the Capital outfit opted to pursue Henrikh Mkhitaryan in a straight-swap deal for Sanchez and the move has benefited both teams in a positive manner with Mkhitaryan and Sanchez making their mark from the starting lineup.
According to Evening Standard, Martial is understood to have become disillusioned with life at Old Trafford after struggling to break into the first XI since Sanchez’s arrival. The France international has been restricted to just three league starts over the past two months and his situation has supposedly attracted interest from Barcelona of late.
In such a situation, the Gunners would no doubt be associated with Martial once more but Evening Standard suggests that the Capital outfit are unlikely to renew their pursuit during this summer’s transfer window.
With this in mind, the FA Cup holders are more focused on bolstering the other areas of the field and this includes the need to bolster the midfield and defensive departments where they have been exploited over the course of the campaign.
Meanwhile, the club are also considering a potential successor to Petr Cech, who has been found wanting on a number of situations this term. The former Czech international has been found guilty of making positional errors which have cost the club dearly, especially in the away games.
Arsenal are currently out of the hunt for a top-four finish to the season their chances of returning to next season’s Champions League are reliant on them lifting the Europa League crown at the end of the campaign.
