Barcelona are reportedly planning to hold contract negotiations with Jordi Alba. The Spain international has been with the Blaugrana since the summer of 2012 and during this period, he has racked over 250 appearances across all competitions.
According to Mundo Deportivo, the Spanish champions are prepared to open discussions with Alba regarding a new deal after managing to commit the likes of Lionel Messi, Gerrard Pique, Sergi Roberto and Samuel Umtiti to long-term contracts over the past year.
At present, Alba has under two years left on his current deal with the Catalan giants and Mundo Deportivo suggests that the club are keen to have the extension rubber stamped by the turn of the year.
Since returning from Valencia in 2012, Alba has transformed into the undisputed choice for Barcelona in the left-back spot and this has helped him cement a regular role with Spain for whom he has acquired 66 caps to date.
Nonetheless, new La Roja manager Luis Enrique opted to leave him out for the UEFA Nation League games against England and Croatia respectively this month and this certainly comes as a surprise, given he has been consistent with his showing.
The move has however not affected him on the personal scale as he managed to contribute a goal and an assist in the weekend just past where Barcelona registered a thumping 8-2 league triumph over newcomers Huesca.
