Bayern Munich are reportedly leading the pursuit of Arsenal midfielder Aaron Ramsey with his existing contract scheduled to expire at the end of the current campaign.
The Wales international has been with the Gunners over the past decade but the club’s hierarchy have decided against extending his contract beyond the ongoing season.
Amidst this, a number of top European clubs including Juventus and Manchester United have been associated with the versatile midfielder but according to Goal.com, the German champions are deemed to be leading the race.
At present, Ramsey has just eight months remaining on his existing contract with the Gunners and should things remain unchanged in the forthcoming weeks, he would be able to discuss a pre-contract with an overseas club in January.
In this case, Bayern are likely to have an edge over the Premier League clubs, in particular, though the likes of Juventus and former suitors Barcelona could have their own say on the player’s proceedings.
Ramsey has been an influential figure for the Gunners over the past five seasons and during this period, he has helped the team to win three FA Cups whilst scoring the winning goals in two of those.
As such, he has managed to become a fan favourite among a major section of the club’s faithful but this does not seem to have encouraged contract discussions with the board recently rescinding their proposed renewal on the table.
The Welshman started the campaign as more of a regular from the starting lineup but over the past couple of months, he has dropped down the pecking order for the Premier League duties with Henrikh Mkhitaryan and Alex Iwobi getting the nod ahead of him.
