Champions League preview: Sevilla vs Manchester United

La Liga outfit Sevilla entertain Manchester United in the Champions League round of 16 first leg on Wednesday night. The Andalusian club appeared to be on a down-slide following the departure of manager Eduardo Berizzo in December but they have since put things right with back-to-back wins over Leganes and Girona respectively.

On the other hand, the Red Devils have succumbed to defeats in two of their previous three Premier League matches but they come into the game with some momentum after picking up a 2-0 away win over Huddersfield Town in the fifth round of the FA Cup.

Players to watch for:

Wissam Ben Yedder – Sevilla: The Frenchman has stood out with his goalscoring exploits for Sevilla this term and he has already notched 15 goals across all competitions. Out of those, six have come in as many appearances in the Champions League and this has included a second-half brace during the stunning 3-3 comeback versus Liverpool. The Spanish club have tended to waste most of their chances in front of goal this season but Ben Yedder has fared decently with a shot accuracy of nearly 65 per cent.

Juan Mata – Manchester United: Mata has probably been the unsung hero in the United ranks with the likes of Romelu Lukaku and Jesse Lingard earning the plaudits. The Spain international was fancied by many to find himself on the bench upon Alexis Sanchez’s arrival last month but he has rather become more influential since then. The attacker has assisted two of the previous three goals which United have scored and his link-up play with Sanchez has been a key highlight over the past few weeks.
