Premier League holders Chelsea are reportedly in advanced negotiations with Luis Enrique, who has been identified as the prime option to replace Antonio Conte during the summer.
Conte, 48, has come for plenty of criticism over the course of the season with the Blues failing to offer an adequate challenge for the English crown. The west London outfit now find themselves five points behind Tottenham Hotspur in the top-four pursuit and they are facing the prospect of missing out on Champions League football for the second time in three seasons.
According to Le Parisien, the Blues are heading the queue to sign Enrique, who is expected to return to management after a year-long sabbatical. The former Barcelona coach has previously been associated with Paris Saint-Germain but they appear to have concluded their interest amid the Spaniard’s desire to join the Stamford Bridge outfit.
As thing stand, the Blues have yet to sort out any kind of paper agreement with the 47-year-old but it seems very likely that they will pursue a new head coach this summer. Conte could end the season by potentially guiding the Blues to FA Cup success but this may not be sufficient to keep hold of his job following his public criticism over the club’s transfer policy earlier in the campaign.
