Chelsea are reportedly making progress towards securing the signature of highly-rated attacker Christian Pulisic from Borussia Dortmund during the forthcoming transfer window.
The United States international has been on the Blues’ radar since the summer and The Mail claims that they are now aiming to finalise a transfer fee worth £60m for his services at the turn of the year.
Pulisic has evolved into an influential performer for Dortmund over the past 30 months but his importance has somewhat reduced this term with the emergence of teenage winger Jadon Sancho.
Moreover, the 20-year-old has also been struggling with niggling injury problems and this combined with his reluctance to pen a contract extension may be among the other reasons behind his restricted role with the Bundesliga giants.
Nonetheless, Dortmund appear keen on keeping hold of their top prospect for the season at the least and they are likely to agree on a transfer agreement with the Blues, only if the player stays put for the campaign.
Meanwhile, the arrival of Pulisic may potentially hamper the prospects of young winger Callum Hudson-Odoi, who has been promoted to the first-team this term after a strong pre-season.
Unlike the initial expectations, the 18-year-old has been restricted to just four matches in the Europa League with him yet to make his Premier League bow under Maurizio Sarri and this could trigger his departure in the New Year.
The teenager presently has 18 months remaining on his contract with the Blues and there are indications that he could be sold during the forthcoming transfer window to cover up part of Pulisic’s transfer package while keeping tabs on the Financial Fair Play.
Bayern Munich, AS Monaco and RB Leipzig are among the prime contenders for the Blues graduate, who scored his maiden professional goal during the club’s recent Europa League meeting versus PAOK.
