Arsenal manager Unai Emery has acknowledged that midfielder Mesut Ozil may not recover from his back problem in time for the midweek Premier League clash at Manchester United.
Ozil found himself unused on the bench during the Gunners’ 2-1 Premier League triumph at Bournemouth following the international break and he has since missed the matches against PAOK and Tottenham Hotspur with a back spasm picked up earlier in that week.
Speaking ahead of the United game, Emery has highlighted (In a press conference through Evening Standard) that Ozil remains doubtful for the Old Trafford meeting after training separately from his teammates on Monday.
The German has produced a mixed bag in terms of his performances this season and the change to the 3-4-3 formation earlier in the month witnessed the midfielder dropping down the order behind Henrikh Mkhitaryan and Alex Iwobi, who offer more in terms of the workrate.
Nonetheless, the duo have not sufficiently impressed the manager during the past two matches where they have started behind Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and they could potentially get the chop for the upcoming trip to Manchester.
Aaron Ramsey and Alexandre Lacazette both came off the bench to make game-changing impacts during the stunning 4-2 comeback triumph against Spurs from 2-1 down and the duo may potentially feature from the off on Wednesday night.
Meanwhile, from the previous match, the Gunners are expected to be without the services of Granit Xhaka after he picked up a fifth yellow card of the Premier League campaign which automatically triggers a one-match domestic suspension.
In his absence, Matteo Guendouzi appears the automatic pick at the heart of the midfield alongside Lucas Torreira, who bagged his maiden goal for the Gunners during the recent north London derby.
