Arsenal have reportedly suffered a key injury setback ahead of Thursday’s Europa League round of 16 tie against AC Milan. The Gunners are already without Nacho Monreal with a back problem and he has apparently been joined by Hector Bellerin, who is nursing a minor injury.
According to The Mirror, the Spain international had been struggling with a tight hamstring which saw him feature on the bench during the league defeat at Brighton. However, he has since suffered a fresh injury concern on his knee and this has ruled him out of the San Siro trip.
The 22-year-old completed Wednesday’s training as normal with his Gunners teammates but the club’s medical team opted against his participation in Milan in order to avoid any long-term injury concerns.
The north London club have had very little to celebrate since the turn of the year and the Europa League now remains their sole route to claiming silverware before the end of the campaign.
Moreover, the Capital outfit appear out of the hunt for a top-four finish and their chances of securing Champions League football next term depend on them lifting the Europa League crown this term.
Should they fail to do so, the Gunners’ hierarchy may be forced to evaluate the future of manager Arsene Wenger, who has come under the pressure of the supporters amid the club’s poor league form.
