Injury update: Manchester United marksman yet to recover from hamstring problem

Manchester United striker Romelu Lukaku could potential miss the Premier League game against Crystal Palace next weekend after having failed to recover from a hamstring injury picked up in training with the Belgium national team.

The marksman has endured a tough run over the past month where he has witnessed form and fitness issues but he made a comeback from a hamstring problem during the recent derby against Manchester City which the Red Devils lost by a 3-1 scoreline.

It had thereafter been expected that Lukaku could play a crucial role for Belgium in the Nations League matches against Iceland and Switzerland but a recurrence of his muscular problem has seemingly halted his participation.

Lukaku had been going through one-on-one training sessions earlier in the week before visiting a specialist in his homeland but Belgium’s official Twitter account has now confirmed that the 25-year-old would play no part in the final Nations League game versus Switzerland.

In Lukaku’s absence, Michy Batshuayi led the line during the recent encounter against Iceland and he scored both goals as Roberto Martinez’s side continued their perfect record in Group A2 of the Nations League.

However, they can anticipate a much trickier challenge on the road to the Swiss, who could reach the final of the competition next summer with either a 1-0, 2-1 win or a victory with a difference of two or more goals.

Belgium registered a 2-1 triumph over the Swiss in the reverse fixture and just one point would assure their progress, though they would want to become the first-ever side to register a 100 percent group stage record in the newly-formed league.

Meanwhile, United could be without Lukaku when they host Palace in the top-flight next weekend and this may witness one of Alexis Sanchez or Marcus Rashford lead the line, though neither has sufficiently impressed wearing the club’s shirt over the past month.
