Lionel Messi would welcome return of Brazil international at Barcelona

Argentine superstar Lionel Messi is reportedly taking the leading step to lure Neymar back to the Camp Nou. The Brazil international made a shock world-record £200m move to Paris Saint-Germain in August 2017 and the decision attracted plenty of animosity from the Barcelona supporters.

According to The Independent, Messi would fancy the prospect of luring Neymar back to the Catalan giants, should the opportunity arise in the forthcoming transfer windows. The Argentine shared a fond relationship with Neymar during their four seasons together and it is suggested that the Ballon d’Or winner would not mind a reunion despite the nature of the Brazilian’s departure last summer.

Irrespective of this, the Spanish champions may not be able to match the same £200m sum for which he was sold with the wages excluded, and The Independent indicates that they may sacrifice Ousmane Dembele in a part-exchange deal in order to convince Les Parisiens into a transfer agreement.

Neymar’s prime objective of joining Paris Saint-Germain had been to compete and beat Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo to the Ballon d’Or title but so far, things have paved very differently after an injury hampered him during the backend of the previous campaign at Parc des Princes.

He has started the the current season in fine form with 11 goals and five assists across all competitions but there remains a sense of unhappiness with Les Parisiens not being able to make progress in Europe – something which may replicate this term unless they are able to get the better of one of Napoli or Liverpool in their Champions League group.

Based on this, it appears that Neymar may seek to pursue a fresh challenge at the end of the current campaign but it remains to be seen whether he would fancy returning to Barcelona, where he could face the wrath of some supporters for the way he exited the Camp Nou last year.

Meanwhile, Dembele is facing a tough second season with the Blaugrana and he has not been able to seal a regular starting role despite a recent arm injury for Lionel Messi. The Frenchman is said to be considering his future with the Catalan giants after featuring from the bench in recent matches in place of Rafinha on the right wing.
