Premier League giants Arsenal and Chelsea are said to hold an interest in recruiting Luis Enrique as their next manager. The 47-year-old is currently on an indefinite sabbatical following a three-year stint with Barcelona, where he guided them to nine major trophies.
According to Mundo Deportivo, the Blues have made an initial approach for the 47-year-old, who is understood to fancy a Premier League move this summer. The west London outfit have gone through a lean patch of late after witnessing back-to-back losses versus Bournemouth and Watford respectively but they can still reclaim the final Champions League spot with a victory over West Bromwich Albion on Monday.
Nevertheless, Antonio Conte’s position at Stamford Bridge remains in a tender position and the club are likely to consider a change of management next season, unless the Italian guides them to Champions League glory. Meanwhile, cross-town rivals Arsenal are also considering an approach for Enrique amid the uncertain future of long-standing manager Arsene Wenger.
The north London suffered a rather disappointing 1-0 derby defeat at the hands of Tottenham Hotspur earlier this month and this sees them seven points behind their pursuit of a top-four spot. As such, their chances of qualifying for the Champions League may now depend on winning the Europa League crown this season.
