Manchester United plan move for frustrated Belgian defender

Manchester United are reportedly considering a move for Paris Saint-Germain defender Thomas Meunier, who has grown frustrated with his restricted gametime at Parc des Princes.

The Belgium international has been playing second fiddle for the right-back position this term with head coach Unai Emery preferring to deploy veteran star Dani Alves in the role.

According to The Express, United boss Jose Mourinho is keeping a close eye on the proceedings of the Belgian and he could make a bid worth £30m to lure him from the Capital outfit in January.

Meunier joined Les Parisiens from Club Brugge during the summer of 2016 and he made an instant impression after winning the right-back role ahead of Ivorian ace Serge Aurier.

However, his second season has been less fruitful with just six appearances in the French top-flight whilst he has yet to feature for Les Parisiens in their Champions League campaign.

As such, he has been associated with a probable exit in the New Year and United could be the ideal destination, considering their struggles to find a competitor to Antonio Valencia.

Matteo Darmian has struggled to win over United boss Jose Mourinho for the right-back role in recent seasons and a replacement could be on the cards with the Italian likely to make way.

The Italy international has been associated with a probable return to the Serie A ahead of the New Year and hopefully, United can recoup part of the sum to sanction a potential move for Meunier.

Meunier, who was a forward during his early career, has already shown his scoring exploits with three goals from six appearances this season and he could prove a quality asset for United in the long-run.

Valencia has been a consistent performer for United from the right-back spot in recent seasons but the Ecuadorian has reduced on his attacking instincts since being drafted into the makeshift role under ex-boss Louis van Gaal.
