Spanish wing-back Marcos Alonso has dismissed the prospect of leaving Chelsea when the season comes to a close. The 27-year-old has been one of the top performers for the Blues since his arrival from Fiorentina in 2016 and he has already reached double figures in terms of his scoring.
Speaking in an interview with Marca, the Spaniard stressed that he is content with his stay with the west London side and he has no plans of pursuing a bigger challenge. The left wing-back added that he is focused on doing the best for the Blues in the remaining months as they push for a top-four finish to the season.
Alonso’s switch to Stamford Bridge was followed up by a mixed response from the club’s supporters owing to his average record with Bolton Wanderers and Sunderland previously. However, under Antonio Conte, he has managed to excel in the left wing-back role and his performances were key to the Blues’ Premier League triumph last term.
At present, Alonso is on course to make his maiden appearance for the Spain national side and this would create some history with his father and grand father having previously represented La Roja. After this, he is expected to rejoin the Blues who have a key London derby against Tottenham Hotspur.
Chelsea are presently five points behind the top-four positions and they will be aiming to outclass Spurs this weekend to enhance their Champions League prospects. Alonso bagged a match-winning brace in a 2-1 win over Spurs in the reverse fixture.
