AC Milan and Inter Milan could reportedly go on a transfer tussle to lure midfielder Cesc Fabregas from Chelsea. The Spain international has just 10 months remaining on his existing deal with the Blues and he would be permitted to speak to overseas clubs regarding a pre-contract at the turn of the year.
According to The Express, the former Arsenal midfielder is certainly not short of offers and both Milan and Inter are likely to discuss the option of a pre-contract to lure the Spaniard from Stamford Bridge.
Fabregas has not featured for the Blues since the start of the Premier League campaign and this has largely come about from him sustaining a mystery knee problem during the club’s pre-season tour of Singapore.
The Spaniard did feature during the second period of the Community Shield to Manchester City but he has since been on the sidelines with N’Golo Kante, Jorginho, Ross Barkley, Mateo Kovacic being among those, who have commanded starting roles this term.
Fabregas has recently returned to first-team training for the Blues but his return to the starting lineup appears far from certain with Kante and Jorginho having sealed two of the three midfield positions.
The final midfield spot is presently witnessing a tussle between Ross Barkley, Mateo Kovacic and Ruben Loftus-Cheek and Fabregas can expect a tough route to the first XI unlike in previous seasons with the Blues.
Based on this, Fabregas could be tempted to pursue a new challenge during the winter period but his decision may be dependent on the Blues’ stance with regards to his current contract situation.
Chelsea have often gone with the strict policy of handing one-year contracts to players aged above 30 and this may get the Spaniard thinking, given he could be offered a much better deal with a switch to the San Siro.
