Egypt international Mohamed Elneny could end his association with Arsenal before the end of the month. The midfielder only penned a fresh four-year contract with the Gunners in March but his position has come under question amid the recruitment of Lucas Torreira and Mateo Guendouzi during the summer transfer window.
According to The Mirror, the 26-year-old could head through the Emirates exit door this month with Marseille supposedly keen on landing his signature. Premier League clubs are no longer permitted to secure players after their transfer window concluded on Friday but there remains the opportunity to sanction potential departures as most European clubs can continue with their summer purchase until August 31.
At present, Elneny is behind the likes of Aaron Ramsey, Granit Xhaka, Lucas Torreira and Mateo Guendouzi in the pecking order at the Emirates Stadium and a move to Marseille could be a tempting prospect for the Egyptian, considering he could fill the void left by the recent departure of Andre Zambo Anguissa to Fulham.
Nonetheless, the former Basel man may not come on the cheap with the Gunners managing to maintain his financial value by prolonging his stay until June 2022. Elneny has been with the Gunners since the winter of 2016 and during this period, he has racked nearly 75 appearances across all competitions.
