Nations League: England player ratings vs Croatia

England went winless for their second game of the Nations League as they settled for a 0-0 stalemate versus Croatia. The Three Lions had unquestionably the better chances to find the scoresheet against the 2018 World Cup finalists but some bad luck and poor finishing meant that they failed to win a competitive game for the fourth straight occasion.

Player Ratings:

Jordan Pickford: The Everton ace had a comfortable game between the sticks. He was generally guarded by the defence barring one shot from Ivan Perisic – 6.5/10

Kyle Walker: Walker returned to his regular right-back role and made overlapping runs at every opportunity. He should have bagged an assist but was not to be after Rashford’s poor finishing – 7/10

John Stones: The Englishman bagged his first shutout since the World Cup finals in Russia. He kept things calm at the back without posing much threat from set-pieces on the opposite end – 6.5/10

Harry Maguire: Maguire has upped his reputation since the World Cup with his set-piece threat being one of his strengths. He could not present the same against Croatia but was comfortable in terms of his defending – 6.5/10

Ben Chillwell: The Leicester City ace made his first start for the Three Lions in the absence of Luke Shaw and Danny Rose through injuries. He made regular runs into the opposite end  and nearly made the opener for Sterling – 7/10

Jordan Henderson: The Liverpool skipper suffered an early disappointment with a booking which ruled him out of the Spain game. Nonetheless, he kept his focus with a commanding performance in the centre of the park – 6.5/10

Eric Dier: Dier nearly found the opening goal during the first period after he witnessed his headed effort hit the woodwork. Thereafter, he maintained his balance in midfield with key passes towards the frontline – 6.5/10

Ross Barkley: Barkley made his England comeback after nearly 16 months but his performance was far from impressive. Tried to engage in the forward play but gave the possession away on a number of occasions – 6/10

Raheem Sterling: The Manchester City attacker has not found the scoresheet for England for three years and that record remained unchanged. Barring an excellent through ball for Rashford, he struggled to make much of an impression in front of goal – 6/10

Harry Kane: England’s skipper has been frustrating since the backend of the World Cup and he experienced a sixth straight goalless game. He should have buried a header towards goals in the second period which eventually hit the bar – 6.5/10

Marcus Rashford: The Manchester United graduate has been criticised for his poor finishing and he could not find a solution versus Croatia where he missed two standout chances where he was one-on-one with the shot-stopper – 5.5/10

Jadon Sancho: Sancho made his international bow for England during the final 10 minutes and impressed with a couple of direct runs from the right wing. He could not make a defining impact however. – N/A
