Tottenham Hotspur play host to Arsenal in Saturday’s north London derby at the Wembley. Both teams are presently vying to finish in the top of the Premier League but Spurs have a four-point advantage over their cross-town rivals heading into the encounter.
Spurs come into the match on the back of a thrilling 2-2 draw versus Liverpool where Harry Kane netted the equaliser via a 95th minute penalty. On the other hand, the Gunners enjoyed a 5-1 rout of Everton last weekend with Aaron Ramsey netting his maiden professional hat-trick.
What happened in the last outing?
The last encounter between the teams was at the Emirates Stadium where the Gunners secured a comfortable 2-0 win over their neighbours. Shkodran Mustafi opened the scoring via a lovely header from a corner in the 36th minute and few moments later, Alexis Sanchez doubled the scores with a neat effort from the six-yard box. The triumph was the Gunners’ first over Spurs in their homeground in four-and-a-half years.
Players to watch for:
Harry Kane – Tottenham Hotspur: Kane has made significant strides over the past few seasons and he is now regarded as one of the most fearsome strikers across Europe. As such, he should have a keen eye for goal against an Arsenal defence, which has looked vulnerable on the road and his record has been impressive versus Arsene Wenger’s side. Kane has bagged six goals in his previous seven appearances versus Arsenal (transfermarkt) and he scored from a spot kick during the Gunners’ previous visit to the old White Hart Lane.
Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang – Arsenal: The Gabon international had a good debut versus Everton last weekend where he scored the fourth goal of the Gunners’ 5-1 triumph. Arsene Wenger stated after the game that Aubameyang was not entirely fit and his real test will surely come against Spurs. Similarly to Kane, Aubameyang has had an impressive record with every fourth shot ending at the back of the net and he has enjoyed playing against Spurs with four goals in as many matches versus Tottenham Hotspur (transfermarkt).
