European champions Real Madrid have reportedly emerged as surprise contenders to acquire the signature of midfielder Aaron Ramsey from Arsenal at the conclusion of the current campaign.
The Wales international has just seven months remaining on his ongoing deal with the north London giants and it seems very likely that his contract may not be extended beyond the end of the season.
With this in mind, Serie A holders Juventus and Bayern Munich have been linked with possible approaches for the midfielder in the New Year but according to The Mirror, they could face stiff competition from Santiago Solari’s side.
The Champions League winners are understood to be planning a pre-contract agreement with Ramsey when the transfer window reopens in the New Year but the deal seems far from straightforward despite the step up to a bigger challenge.
Ramsey would undoubtedly relish the prospect of pursuing a bumper move to the Bernabeu at the turn of the year but with his partner recently giving birth to twins, there seems the reluctance to secure a move overseas.
Owing to this, the Welshman is understood to fancy a new challenge preferably in the Premier League and the Gunners could be helpless in preventing him from joining one of their leading competitors, with the hierarchy not keen on bowing to his wage demands.
Ramsey has found himself regularly on the substitutes’ bench for the Gunners in recent months but he managed to make a strong impact against Tottenham Hotspur last weekend with a brace of assists after coming on in the 4-2 win.
That performance could be sufficient to earn him a starting role when Arsenal take on arch-rivals Manchester United on the road on Wednesday night. The Gunners suffered back-to-back league defeats against United last term.
