Spanish defender remains fully committed to Chelsea

Spanish defender Marcos Alonso has indicated that he is ‘very happy’ at Chelsea despite the ongoing speculation which has linked with a possible return to Real Madrid.

Alonso made his Premier League comeback with Chelsea in the summer of 2016 after he was pursued by ex-boss Antonio Conte from Fiorentina before the transfer deadline.

He has since transformed into a crucial performer for the Blues, contributing 15 goals and eight assists in all competitions and no other Premier League defender has bettered the feat during this period.

As such, there had been much speculation that Los Blancos could re-sign him to provide competition to Marcelo but Alonso has now dismissed the prospects in an interview with AS.

Speaking to the Spanish publication, the left-sided defender clarified that he has no aim of parting ways with the former Premier League champions despite the speculation regarding his position.

He added that he is committed for the remaining three years of his Blues deal and does not plan to part ways, given the recognition he has received from the club and their fellow rivals.

The comments are likely to bring a relief to the Blues’ faithful with reports previously suggesting that the Spaniard could push for a return to the Spanish capital in the future.

Aside from Alonso, star attacker Eden Hazard was also linked with a probable move to the European champions during the summer before he decided to commit his future for the campaign.

The Belgian is supposedly unimpressed with the club’s failure to qualify for the Champions League and he is currently stalling on a contract extension to judge how the current season progresses.

The former Lille man presently has under two years left on his existing contract with the Blues and The Times has recently claimed that his Chelsea future may depend on whether they can seal a top-four finish or win the Europa League altogether this term.
