Spanish La Liga: Barcelona player ratings vs Huesca

Barcelona secured their third straight win of the new league season as they thrashed newcomers Huesca by an overwhelming 8-2 scoreline. The Blaugrana witnessed a minor scare from the visitors as they opened the scoring but they managed to recover to hold a slender 3-2 lead at the break. Thereafter, the Catalan giants took charge of the situation and it was more of a one-sided contest in the second period, where the reigning champions may have reached double figures in terms of scoring on any other day.

Player Ratings:

Marc-Ander Ter Stegen: The German could not keep his third straight clean sheet but he could not be blamed for the outcome. The shot-stopper did concede two goals but he was thereafter a mere spectator – 6.5/10

Sergi Roberto: He was once again preferred ahead of specialist right-back Nelson Semedo but was full of running in the opposite end of the field. However, unlike Alba, he could not contribute to the scoresheet in any form – 7/10

Gerard Pique: The Spaniard should be disappointed conceding early on versus Huesca and the awareness is something he may need to improve for future games. Pushed more forward as the game progressed – 7/10

Samuel Umtiti: Likewise Pique, Umtiti was not at his best despite Barcelona securing a comfortable win. His man marking was susceptible especially in the first half – 7/10

Jordi Alba: Alba came into the game with the disappointment of missing out on the Spain squad and he certainly took the anger on the newcomers. Bagged two assists and a goal in a stunning performance – 8.5/10

Sergio Busquets: As always, Busquets was in command at the heart of the midfield and he barely put a foot wrong during the game. Taught the opposition a lesson on how to control the match – 7.5/10

Ivan Rakitic: The Croatian was solid with his passing throughout the encounter and he capped the performance with a goal and an assist to his name. The strike was a particular highlight as he scored with a wonderful half-volley at the first attempt – 8.5/10

Philippe Coutinho: The midfielder has adjusted tremendously to the new surroundings since his January move and he contributed an assisted for Lionel Messi’s second goal of the game. He should have easily scored another but was denied by the opposition keeper – 8/10

Ousmane Dembele: Dembele has progressed step by step in his second season with the Blaugrana and he contributed yet another strike for the season. He was more calculated with performance whereby the focus was more on distribution – 8.5/10

Lionel Messi: Messi has been simply stupendous since the season begun and he once more starred with two goals and an assist. The Argentine had the chance for a hat-trick but gave up the opportunity for Luis Suarez to score from the penalty spot – 9.5/10

Luis Suarez: Suarez had an indifferent start to the season with no goals from four matches and he ended the drought versus Huesca. Bagged the third strike of the game before scoring from the penalty spot right at the end – 8.5/10
