Germany international Mesut Ozil has signed a new lucrative deal with Arsenal and hence put an end to the ongoing speculation over his future. The Germany international was initially expected to leave the Emirates at the end of the season but the contract extension assures his stay until the summer of 2021.
The midfielder’s future has been a constant debate in the media since the turn of the year following the Gunners’ decision to permit the sale of Alexis Sanchez to Manchester United. Unlike Ozil, the Chilean had been adamant to extend his contract beyond the summer and the hierarchy eventually took the option of selling him in a straight swap agreement involving Henrikh Mkhitaryan.
The signings of Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Mkhitaryan had brought a positive influence around the club prior to the transfer deadline and Ozil has now confirmed his extension via Twitter, which was thereafter announced on the club’s official website.

Obviously, the extension has provided a huge boost for everyone around the club, and they can now focus on pushing for a top four finish in the top-flight whilst trying to bag silverware from the League Cup and Europa League.
Arsenal have a huge month ahead with European commitments, and it will be interesting to see how the Gunners are able to adapt with their new attack combination versus the Premier League elite. The Gunners face Tottenham Hotspur in a much-anticipated north London derby on February 10.
