With the new Premier League season having completed its fourth week, a number of strikers have already broken their goalscoring duck. Among those, we look into two players who could have a genuine say on their respective club’s performance through the course of the campaign.
Two Premier League strikers to watch for this season:
Alexandre Lacazette – Arsenal: The France international had a rather disappointing 2017/18 debut season (14 goals from 32 league appearances) with the Gunners where a knee injury and poor form upfront cost him a place with the national team at the summer World Cup. Despite this, the Frenchman has come up with a different attitude since the start of the new season and he was recently handed his maiden start versus Cardiff City after three notable performances from the substitutes’ bench. Against Cardiff, he contributed a goal and an assist which bagged him the man of the match accolade but aside from this, his link-up play with fellow striker Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang was impressive and the duo could form a deadly combination upfront as the Gunners seek to compete for a top-four position this term.
Aleksandar Mitrovic – Fulham: The Serbian footballer was influential towards Fulham’s promotion from the Championship after netting 12 goals during the backend of the previous campaign. As such, it was a no-brainer for the Cottagers to secure him from Newcastle United this summer, though his previous record with the Magpies in the Premier League has been far from impressive. Nevertheless, Fulham’s style of play appears to have finally helped him to the rigours of top-flight football and he is currently the joint top-scorer with four goals alongside Liverpool’s Sadio Mane. It remains to be seen whether he can maintain his form through the season but his showing upfront should very much determine Fulham’s distance from the dreaded drop.
