Two things we learned: Chelsea 1-1 Barcelona

Chelsea produced a resolute defensive performance on Tuesday night as they played out a 1-1 draw against in the round of 16 first leg of the Champions League. Willian starred for the Blues with one of his best performances of the campaign and he was rather unlucky to have not found the scoresheet on more than one occasion. The Brazilian opened the scoring in the 62nd minute but Lionel Messi pulled things level for the visitors 15 minutes from time.

Three Things We Learned:

Lionel Messi ends his scoreless run: The Argentine had entered the match on the back of eight successive matches without scoring against the Blues. A similar evening bestowed upon him at Stamford Bridge as he struggled to find space within the box but a defensive lapse late on from the hosts allowed Messi to slot in the equaliser from 16 yards. The Argentine was not at his fluent best in west London but he would surely be content to have broken his scoring duck versus the Blues.

Willian standing out for the hosts: Willian had impressed over the weekend where he bagged a first-half brace against Hull City and he came with a similar vein of form against the Catalan giants. Right from the first half, Willian was not shy of taking shots from long-range and he witnessed two of his three efforts ricochet off the woodwork. Meanwhile, the winger also had a couple of opportunities to put N’Golo Kante through on goal in the dying stages but his passes were intercepted on each occasion.
