Two things we learned: Chelsea 2-0 Manchester City

Chelsea ended Manchester City’s unbeaten Premier League run after securing a 2-0 triumph over them at Stamford Bridge on Saturday. The Blues came into the fixture as underdogs after the recent run of results but they managed to create the better chances against the Citizens to come up with the maximum points. N’Golo Kante and David Luiz netted for the Blues in the first and second half respectively to ensure the Blues returned to the top four of the Premier League standings.

Two things we learned:

Eden Hazard makes a defining impact: The Belgium international featured in the false number 9 role against the Citizens and he could not make much of an impact in terms of attempts on goal. However, he was impressive with his tireless running when he was in possessing of the ball which induced fouls from the opposition. Aside from this, he notably came up with a sublime pass for the unspotted Kante for the game’s opener and likewise made a crucial impact during the second period by delivering the perfect cross from the corner for Luiz’s strike.

Manchester City missing Sergio Aguero’s presence: Aguero has suffered from muscular and adductor injuries over the past few weeks and this has restricted his appearance upfront. In his absence, City have been impressive without much fuss but against the Blues, they lacked the central figure, who could make an impact inside the box. Gabriel Jesus, who has been the club’s back-up striker, only made an appearance off the bench and he was pretty average with his sole meaningful shot coming after a mistake from goalkeeper Kepa Arrizabalaga in the dying stages of the game.
