Manchester United propelled into the fourth round of the FA Cup as they secured a 2-0 triumph over Derby County on Friday night. The Rams offered a relatively good challenge over the course of the game but they were eventually outclassed with Jesse Lingard and Romelu Lukaku finding the scoresheet in the final 10 minutes of the clash.
Two things we learned:
Romelu Lukaku makes a superb comeback: The Belgium international missed the previous league game against Everton with a head injury and therefore he was only introduced following the break. Nevertheless, his physical presence upfront posed concerns for Derby from the off and he finished the match with a goal and an assist to his name. Lukaku has had plenty of criticism levied towards his performances of late but he has still managed to find the scoresheet for every 159 minutes, he has been on the playing field.
Jesse Lingard makes another match-defining performance: Lingard has often been regarded as a Cup player with his tendency to score versus weaker opposition but he has managed to improve on this statistic by contributing regularly in the Premier League this season. With the game fairly balanced, Lingard managed to put United ahead in the 84th minute with a wonderful strike from outside the box and this registered his eighth goal in the club’s shirt over the past 10 games.
